QUEX 2014 Tour: Notes From The Road...Part 2
May 28th 2014

Queen Extravaganza UK, Europe and Scandinavia 2014

Part Two

Back in Part One we were still in Germany.

Five shows in six days was tough for everyone, but the Germans know their Queen music and lapped up the performances the band produced. The venue in Hamburg was next door to the place the Beatles played for the first time before moving onto The Star Club, so it was great to be surrounded by such history. It was special too for Brandon and Nick who had both lived in Germany for some time, Brandon spent 17 years in Germany and speaks very good German which was always a surprise for the crowds when he introduced Marc on stage in their native tongue!

Our last show in Germany was in Berlin, we then travelled overnight to the beautiful city of Vienna. We played at The Arena there and it is such an interesting venue! Originally an area that was squatted by Punks in the 70s, they used to host underground and illegal gigs until the Government gave them the land. From there they have become a legitimate business and have invested heavily in the facilities with four venues in one complex. They still proudly fly the Jolly Roger flag in defiance! Just goes to show what can be achieved.

From Vienna we again travelled overnight to Padova in Italy. Some of the band took the opportunity to go into Venice, just 20 miles away for the day before returning to sound check. None of us had played this venue before, it was new and resembled a big tent. The crew had some technical issues to deal with on the day but as always we worked it out in the end and the show went on as planned to a very lively and appreciative Italian audience.

We moved on straight after the show to France. Our next show was in Paris, but because of the length of the journey we had to have a midway stop for 12 hours in Lyon before continuing to Paris, where I will continue to update you in part three!

QUEX 2014 Tour: Notes From The Road...Part 1
May 15th 2014

***Notes from the road…is back!***

Queen Extravaganza UK, Europe and Scandinavia 2014 - Part One

After our last action-packed trip out to Hong Kong with Queen Extravaganza we gathered again in early May at the seaside of Bournemouth in England for the Production Rehearsals for this current tour.

It was great to get all the familiar faces back together again, Marc, Brandon, Tyler and Francois-Olivier. New guitarist Nick Radcliffe who was brought up just a few miles away in Lymington again joined us.  We have also welcomed back our Stage Manager Nick Ohl from Alabama, USA and Ross Anderson, our Monitor Engineer.

New for this tour are James Adkins as our Catalyst and Video Engineer who has just finished a tour with Sarah Brightman, Barney Watson as keyboard / drum tech, ex Rolling Stones and Killers to name but a few, Oz Bagnall as our Front of House Engineer who has recently worked with KT Tunstall, Ellie Goulding and Bryan Ferry. Matt Arthur joins us as our Lighting Director hav-ing worked with UB40, Chemical Brothers and Keane. I also have been joined by Elisa Martinis as my Tour Assistant.

We are proud to have managed to bring together such talent, both on and off stage to make this Rock show work!

Our Production Rehearsals were held at the beautiful o2 Academy in Bo-scombe, Bournemouth, where we were joined by Juliette Slater the Tour Di-rector of Queen and Queen Extravaganza along with Spike Edney, Queen’s keyboard player and master of all matters musically for Queen Extravaganza.

After three long days the show was honed into its’ new format. There are many changes to the musical content with Marc taking on many of Jennifer’s previous vocals and different harmonies because of the new line up.

Saturday came and the band played a great show for the folks of Bourne-mouth, which went down so well. We loaded out and got on our way, as our next stop was Antwerp in Belgium. Our Tour Bus went via the Channel Tun-nel and we were in Belgium for breakfast - amazing!

We played to a sold out Stadsschouwburg, an all seated venue, which we haven’t done since North America and then overnight to Tilburg in Holland. Tilburg was back to an all-standing audience and the Dutch fans were wild!

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with Queen Extravaganza since January 2013 and I can state, without question, this is very best Marc Martel I have ever seen. His talent grows with every tour and every show and he cap-tures the audience with increasing intensity.

We are now in Germany and have five shows here, Cologne, Hamburg, Mu-nich, Frankfurt & Berlin.

Be back with more notes when we hit Austria!

Press Release: New UK Tour Announced and ON SALE Now!
May 9th 2014

May 9, 2014 - Following the resounding success of the recent North American and European tours, The Queen Extravaganza will return to the UK for select performance dates in September 2014. Tickets are now ON SALE.

The Queen Extravaganza is a spectacular touring concert show designed to take the glorious music and live experience of legendary rock band Queen and bring it to generations of fans as performed by new musical talent. Two of Queen’s original band mates and songwriters— iconic drummer Roger Taylor and legendary guitarist Brian May—are the masterminds behind The Queen Extravaganza.

Taylor hand-picked the band members from almost 1,000 entries through a unique online talent search with video submissions generating more than 10 million views around the globe. The late Mark Fisher created the staging and production elements, which are enhanced by rare footage from Queen’s extensive archives and newly-created imagery. The band made their debut performing on the popular TV show American Idol in 2012.

“The Queen Extravaganza is a new show specially designed to enable new fans, together with fans of old, to celebrate the music of Queen in a heart-stopping event,” says Roger Taylor. “It’s very spectacular, it’s very visual, there are going to be some shocks and some tremendous surprises. It will be a rock celebration in the Royal tradition.”

The 90-minute show features more than 20 Queen classics drawn from the band’s biggest hits: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Under Pressure,” “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions,” “A Kind of Magic,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “Somebody to Love,” and “Killer Queen” as well as other fan favorites.

The Queen Extravaganza band is: vocalist Marc Martel; guitarist Nick Radcliffe; bassist Francois-Olivier Doyon; drummer Tyler Warren; and keyboardist and musical director Brandon Ethridge.
